For centuries the Silk Road passed through the Jaisalmer region of India's famous Rajasthan province, establishing a wealthy home to Jains traders. These people built monumental places of worship of incomprehensible beauty and demonstrated incredible feats of engineering.

Fascinating is that after the area was abandoned a handful of Jain families remained and from them, the current inhabitants have learned to overcome and survive in this deep desert with hardly any water. 

This image reminds us of our necessity for water and the women who travel long distances as a daily pilgrimage to sustain life.
